What did Donald Trump do today?
He returned to his old strategy on dealing with the coronavirus.
In an interview with Fox Business today, Trump said this about the COVID-19 pandemic: "I think we're gonna be very good with the coronavirus, I think at some point that's going to sort of just disappear, I hope."
It is at least the nineteenth time he's expressed his belief that the COVID-19 crisis will simply go away on its own. For what it's worth, he does appear to genuinely believe this, all real-world evidence to the contrary—although that lack of urgency and even boredom on his part has had devastating consequences that most other countries managed to avoid.
More than 50,000 Americans tested positive today, another new record.
So what?
- Doing nothing and assuming things will work out isn't the best way to handle a massive outbreak of a deadly disease.
- Presidents who won't or can't do the work that comes with the job should resign.
